This official residence for the Taipei mayor was built in 1940. Inside there are tatami rooms and Western-style furniture. Built in a mixed Japanese and Western style, mayors of Taipei City lived in this residence until 1994. The residence is currently outsourced for operation and is open to the public, and has become an arts and culture venue for literature, history, and philosophy, with various literary and art exhibitions and activities held. Located in southern Taipei City, Kang-Qing-Long (KQL) refers to the street block constituted by Yongkang Street, Qingtian Street and Longquan Street. This is a literary and educational district, where National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Chengchi University, and a branch campus of Tamkang University are located. In 1981 the new tenant of this former private residence, Mr.Zhou Yu, turned it into a teahouse and pioneered the tea-drinking art in Taipei. The eaves in front of the house crawl with old wisteria, inspiring the “ Wistaria ” name. The place is filled with an air of artistic and literary sophistication and ideological spirit, and in its early years became a place of gathering for social movement activists and critical scholars.
